The Kingston River Celebration took place again this summer on Kingston Riverside. Another fantastic success. The Regatta saw another bumper turnout for the rowing races over the two days while the entertainment and glorious sunshine kept the spectators busy on the river banks.
French Lobsters stiltwalked around Charter Quay, children watched Punch and Judy with painted faces and the Market Place and Eagle Brewery Wharf echoed with the sounds of talented local musicians and artists. The Thames and Hogsmill were filled with hundreds of rowers and a number of traditional Thames boats such as Queen’s shallop “Jubilant” and several boats built by Mark Edwards in Richmond for the recent Ridley Scott film “Robin Hood”.

The Thames Landscape Strategy was just one of the stalls to line the riverbank on the Town side and on the Sunday we were joined by Daphne and Martin Neville and their two Asian short-clawed otters – Rudi and Belinda, who were helping us raise awareness of wild otters and in particular the British otter. The TLS is currently working on a project to improve habitat for otters, there by providing any furry visitors to the Thames (and there have been several reports of such visits) somewhere to rest and hopefully even nest in the future.

With the help of the visitors to the River Celebration we were able to raise nearly £100 for the project through kind donations and the purchase of raffle tickets.
