Hampton Court Road – Safety and Environment Improvements

The council is proposing to implement improvements along the elevated section of footway on Hampton Court Road. The scheme is to be funded by Transport for London and is designed to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

Last year the council commissioned a safety review and analysis along Hampton Court Road which identified issues and measures that could be introduced to help improve road safety along this busy section of highway. The review confirmed a need to improve facilities for the more vulnerable road user. Specifically, there is a need to formalise how the footway is currently used by converting it into a new shared facility for both pedestrians and cyclists. Other key issues identified from the report include the need to repair the concrete wall and part of the footway, and to provide safety railing to help prevent falls into the carriageway.

The proposals include:

•Installing a wooden safety railing.
•Widening the existing footway.
•Clear signage to encourage cyclists to use the off road facility.
•Essential maintenance works to the wall.
•Upgrading street lighting.
•Renewal of street furniture.

We would like your feedback on these proposals and any other improvements you think would benefit the area. Please complete the questionnaire and return to Highways and Transport, Civic Centre, 44 York Street, Twickenham, TW1 3BZ or contact Neil West on 020 8487 5206 or email highwaysandtransport@richmond.gov.uk
no later than Monday 4th May 2009.
