This years Summer Party was held at Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park on Wednesday the 11th June. Hosted by Sir David Attenborough and sponsored by the Hearsum Family it proved to be another resounding success. 200 guests representing 150 local and national groups were a testament to the strength of the Thames Landscape Strategy’s partnership. Among those present were representatives from Transport for London, Environment Agency, Royal Parks, The Surrey Care Trust, and Councillors representing the London Boroughs of Richmond-Upon-Thames, Kingston-Upon-Thames, Hounslow, and the Borough of Elmbridge. The event was very well received and even the weather held off until the small hours of the morning.
Sir David’s speech was inspirational and highlighted the importance of the Thames landscape both as a natural habitat and a community resource where people and wildlife can co-exist in an exciting and sustainable manner.
The event also served as a platform from which to welcome two new members of staff into the fold; Francesca Morrison as the new Project Officer for London Arcadia and Rebecca Law as the new Project Development Officer Thames Landscape Strategy. Both received a lucky horse shoe from Sir David and are wished the best of luck by the Partnership in their new posts.
It was also with great pleasure that the Thames Landscape Strategy was able to launch two new leaflets. Treasures by the Thames” – a guide to the 50 must see sights along the river between Hampton and Kew. Focusing not only on the traditional tourist sights such as Hampton Court Palace and the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, but also the less well know gems of the King’s Stone, Strawberry Hill House, and riverside pubs. The other was Riverside Wildlife a guide to the flora and fauna of the varied habitat along the River Thames.
The Thames Landscape Strategy would like to thank the Hearsum Family, Pembroke Lodge and all those who helped make the event such a success.
