Thames Landscape Strategy - Hampton to Kew -

News

Construction works begin at Teddington Lock

Work started at Teddington Lock on the lock island bank protection works and new island tail layby, on the 3rd September 2007. This new layby will provide a valuable facility for trip boat operators, when for the first time they will be able to drop off and pick up visitors at Teddington Lock. The new layby should be operational by summer 2008.

The TLS has worked closely with the Environment Agency to secure the new layby, and work is likely to run until mid January. If funding is available works will continue straight after with the replacement of the launch lock gates and cill repairs and that will be followed by replacement of the central barge lock gates. Therefore continuous construction work may go on until after Easter 2008.

A high proportion of the lock island will be closed to the public and there will be restricted access on the towpath / Thames Path. The Thames path will be open at all times except for a few minutes delay if plant and equipment is crossing to the island.

One of the locks will be open at all times.

For further information contact the Environment Agency.
